SPECIAL EVENTS

Recreation Center Programming / Events

 Epoca De Oro Del Cine Mexicano (Hispanic Movie Series for Seniors)

 This month’s presentation is on July 23rd at the Civic Center Ballroom from 9:00am to 2:00pm with lunch, music, and dancing immediately following the movie.  The featured movie is “Yo Mate a Rosita Alvarez” starring Luis Aguilar.

High School Volleyball League

Games are played every Monday and Wednesday at E. Hachar and Hillside Recreation Centers.

 This coming week’s games will be played on July 20th and July 22nd.

Hillside Recreation Center has three games at 7, 8, & 9pm

E. Hachar has two games at 7 & 8pm.

Aerobics

Get ready for the beach this summer by working out at one of our recreation center aerobic classes.  For a minimal fee of $5.00 a month you can join one of our six aerobics classes and start enjoying a healthier lifestyle.

Boxing Classes

We are offering boxing instructional classes at two recreation center locations.  This is a great way of keeping fit and at the same time learning a form of self defense and discipline.  Must be a member to participate (fee $5.00/ year membership)

Tarver Rec. Ctr                                      Wednesday               7pm to 8:30pm

ESL Classes

The Parks and Leisure Services along with the Literacy Volunteers of America – Laredo, are offering English as a Second Language courses at several recreation centers. 

 Monday and Friday

Farias Rec. Center               7:00pm to 8:00pm

 Monday and Wednesday

Cigarroa Rec. Center           7:30pm to 9:00pm

Movie Camp

Session III for our movie camp is currently being conducted – learn to direct, produce, act, and edit a short movie.  It’s a great introduction into movie making and great fun for the kids. Session III runs from July 13th thru July 31st.  Call the Inner City Technology Rec. Center at 794-1764 for more information.

Library Programming / Events

 Fruit Collage Workshop

The Laredo Public Library will have a 3 day summer session where you will be able to create your own work of art and take it home to show to all your family and friends.  Registration is on- going until capacity is filled, come in today!  Space is limited to 20 children, ages 4 to 6 yrs old.

Movie Madness in July

Come and join the fun for the entire family!  Get out of the Laredo heat and bring the kids to watch movies and enjoy refreshments at the Main Library.

Passports

 Reminder!!  We continue to process applications for passports, Monday thru Friday from 9:00am to 11:30am.

Aquatics Programming / Events

 Adaptive Aquatics

 We continue to sponsor along with the American Red Cross a course for people of special needs, the course helps enhance their physical movement as well as promote a better quality of life.  The activities are modified to meet the special needs of each individual.  Upcoming sessions are on July 18th and August 1st from 9:00am to 11:00am.  There is no fee and registration continues until all slots are filled.  For more information call our Aquatics Division at 794-1765.

Swim Team Registrations

We continue registrations for our swim teams!   Every pool will register a team (limit 25 participants) from ages 6 yrs old to 17 yrs of age.  Please contact our Aquatics Division for more information at 794-1765.
