BRONCOS WIN HIGH SCORING AFFAIR WITH WHITEWINGS

July 14, 2009-Amarillo, TX-the Laredo Broncos offense lit up the scoreboard, as they beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings by a score of 9-6 at Veterans Field, on Tuesday.
The Broncos scored the games first runs in the 1st. Luis Ugueto singled to start the inning, and then went to 3rd on a single by David Cardona. With Mario Mendez batting, WhiteWings’ starter Juan Jimenez threw a wild pitch, which moved Cardona to 2nd. Mendez then grounded out, but Ugueto scored and Cardona move to 3rd. Argelis Nunez followed with a rbi double, which scored Cardona. Nunez went to 3rd on a groundout, and later scored on another wild pitch by Jimenez. That gave Laredo the 3-0 lead.
The Broncos added on to their lead in the 3rd. With 2 outs, Mario Mendez reached 2nd on an error by shortstop Angel Reyes. Argelis Nunez followed with a single, which scored Mendez. Luany Sanched then hit a single, putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Andres Santos followed with a 2 run double scoring both Nunez and Sanchez. That made the score 6-0.
The WhiteWings got on the scoreboard in the 4th inning. With runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out, Angel Reyes singled scoring Brian Nichols from 2nd and advancing Alberto Cruz to 3rd. Jonathan Poterson then reached on a fielder’s choice, with Cruz scoring on the play. Rafael Zorilla followed with a single. Casey Allen then doubled to score both Poterson and Zorrilla. The ball got by left fielder David Cardona which allowed Allen to try for 3rd base. The throw from Cardona was thrown away, which allowed Allen to score on the play. It was now a 6-5 ballgame.
Laredo extended their lead in the 5th inning. Mario Mendez led off the inning with a triple, and that was followed by a walk to Argelis Nunez. Luany Sanchez then hit a single scoring Mendez and moving Nunez to 2nd. Nunez and Sanchez then tried a double steal, but Sanchez was thrown out at 2nd, while Nunez made it to 3rd. OJ Garza followed with a rbi single scoring Nunez. That made the score 8-5.
The Broncos added on to their lead in the 6th after Juan Peralta came into the game for starter Juan Jimenez. Jaime Morales singled to start off the inning, and then went to 3rd on a single by Luis Ugueto. David Cardona would hit into a double play. Morales scored on the play to make the score 9-5.
The WhiteWings inched closer in the 8th. Casey Allen singled in a run, to make the score 9-6.
Luis Arroyo pitched 8 great innings for the Broncos as he was in line for the win. He went 8 innings giving up 6 runs 4 of which were earned, on 13 hits. He walked no one and struck out 5.
New Broncos’ pitcher, Franklyn Gracesqui came into the game in the 9th, looking for the save. Gracesqui would pitch a 1-2-3 inning, as the Broncos defeated the WhiteWings by a score of 9-6.
The Broncos scored 9 runs on 12 hits and had 4 errors while the WhiteWings scored 6 runs on 13 hits and had 2 errors.
The Broncos are now 11-22 on the season while the WhiteWings are 14-19. The Broncos will next be in action Wednesday July 15th, as they play game 2 of a 4 game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in Laredo at 7:30.
