BRONCOS LOSE PITCHER DUEL TO COLTS

July 9, 2009-San Angelo, TX-the Laredo Broncos got a solid pitching performance by Luis Arroyo, but it wasn’t enough as they lost to the San Angelo Colts by a score of 4-2 at Foster Field, on Thursday.
The Colts struck 1st in the bottom of the 1st inning. With runners on the corners and 2 outs, Josh Collazo hit a rbi single scoring Jason Diaz. That gave San Angelo the early 1-0 lead.
The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning. Andres Santos singled with 1 out in the inning. Santos went to 2nd on a groundout, and the scored on a single by Jaime Morales. That tied the game at 1.
The Colts got the lead back in the 3rd inning. With runners on the corners and 1 away, Hunter Jobes reached on a fielder’s choice. Scoring on the play was Ronnie Gaines to give them the 2-1 lead.
San Angelo extended their lead in the 5th. Josh Collazo doubled with 2 outs, and then scored on a double by Hunter Jobes. San Angelo now had a 3-1 lead.
Laredo was being shut down by Colts’ starter Chandler Barnard, but finally got it going in the 8th. Jaime Morales led off with a walk. With 1 out, Morales went to 2nd on a groundout. Miguel Ortiz then delivered a single that scored Morales, and Ortiz advanced to 2nd on the throw to the plate. Barnard would be taken out of the game after that, as Jameson Maj came in to face Mario Mendez. Maj would strike out Mendez, but the score was now 3-2.
Broncos’ starter Luis Arroyo was taken out after pitching 7 solid innings. He gave up 3 runs while scattering 12 hits. He walked only 1 batter and struck out 7. Carlos Alvarez came into the game in the 8th. The Colts tacked on a run on a rbi double by Bradley Goldsmith. That made the score 4-2 as Chace Vacek came into the game looking for the save, and rebound from his tough outing last night.
Vacek pitched better tonight as he pitched a scoreless 9th inning, as the Colts took the victory by a score of 4-2.
The Broncos scored 2 runs on 5 hits and had 0 errors while the Colts scored 4 runs on 14 hits and had 1 error.
The Broncos are now 9-19 on the season while the Colts are 19-9. The Broncos will next be in action Friday July 10th, as they start a 4 game series against the Amarillo Dillas in Amarillo at 7:05.
