BRONCOS LOSE ON WALKOFF BY FORMER BRONCO

July 12, 2009-Amarillo, TX-the Laredo Broncos battled back from a 5 run deficit, but lost to the Amarillo Dillas by a score of 8-7 at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa, on Sunday.
The Broncos struck first in the 1st inning. David Cardona led off the game with a double. Jaime Morales then tried to bunt him over, but the throw from pitcher Taylor Allen went wide of the 1st base bag. Cardona would score on the play and Morales would go all the way to 3rd. With 1 out, Argelis Nunez singled in Morales. That gave Laredo the 2-0 lead.
The Dillas answered back in their half of the 1st. They loaded the bases with no one out, when Terrance McClain singled into left field. Two runs were going to score, but the ball got by left fielder David Cardona which allowed McClain to go all the way home. Amarillo now had a 4-2 lead.
The Dillas added to their lead in the 2nd. With runners on the corners and no one out, Andrew Wong hit into a double play. Scoring from 3rd was Willie James, as it was now a 5-2 lead.
Amarillo scored again in the 3rd on a rbi double by Rafael Ozuna, that made the score 6-2.
The Dillas extended their lead in the 6th inning. With 2 outs, Keanon Simon hit a solo home run, his 3rd of the season. That made the score 7-2.
The Broncos inched closer in the 7th inning. David Cardona led off the inning with a triple, and scored on a single by Jaime Morales. Morales would later be out on a fielder’s choice, with Mario Mendez reaching on the play. Mendez then stole 2nd and 3rd base. When he stole 3rd the throw by the catcher Justin Wenger went into left field, allowing Mendez to score. That made the score 7-4 in favor of Amarillo.
Laredo struck again in the 8th inning. Robert Moron singled to lead off the inning and went to 3rd on a double by OJ Garza. Anthony Bennett then came up as a pinch hitter and hit a 2 run single. Ryan Flynn then advanced Bennett to 2nd with a sacrifice bunt. David Cardona followed with a single moving Bennett to 3rd. Jaime Morales then reached on a fielder’s choice, with Bennett scoring the tying run.
Ryan Harris would leave the game after 7 innings with a no decision. He gave up 7 runs 6 of which were earned on 10 hits. He walked 4 and stuck out 7. Jason Herman came in to pitch the 8th inning.
In the bottom of the 9th, the Dillas put runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out against Jason Herman. The Broncos brought Carlos Alvarez into the game to face the powerful lefty Trent Lockwood. Lockwood would draw the walk loading the bases. Julio Pinto then came into the game to face former Bronco Rafael Ozuna. Ozuna hit a sacrifice fly scoring Carlos Figueroa to give Amarillo the 8-7 victory.
The Broncos scored 7 runs on 14 hits and had 3 errors while the Dillas scored 8 runs on 11 hits and had 3 errors.
The Broncos are now 9-22 on the season while the Dillas are 17-14. The Broncos will next be in action Monday July 13th, as they play the finale of a 4 game series against the Amarillo Dillas in Amarillo at 7:05.
