BRONCOS FLY PAST WHITEWINGS

July 29, 2009-Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos set a ULB record by scoring a run in seven consecutive innings, as they beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings by a score of 7-6 at Veterans Field, on Wednesday.
The Broncos started the scoring in the second. Argelis Nunez walked to lead off the inning, and went to second on a single by Luany Sanchez. With one out Robert Moron reached on an error by Joaquin Rodriguez. Nunez was able to score on the play, to give Laredo the 1-0 lead.
The Broncos added on to their lead in the third. Luis Ugueto walked with one out, and then stole second base. David Cardona followed with a rbi single, which scored Ugueto. That made the score 2-0.
The Broncos extended their lead in the fourth. Andres “El Monkey” Santos led off the inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the season. The score was now 3-0 in favor of Laredo.
The Broncos scored for the fourth consecutive inning in the fifth. Mario Mendez led off with a single and stole second base. Argelis Nunez followed with a single that scored Mendez and made the score 4-0.
Laredo starter Gregorio Martinez sailed through the first five innings of the game. The WhiteWings finally got to Martinez in the sixth. Rico Santana doubled in a run, and then scored on a single by Brian Nichols. That mad the score 4-2.
The Broncos scored again in their half of the sixth. Jaime Morales singled and then stole second base. Morales then scored on a double by Luis Ugueto, as the Broncos now led 5-2.
Laredo scored for the sixth consecutive inning in the seventh. Argelis Nunez walked to start off the inning and then went to second on a single by Luany Sanchez. That was followed by a rbi single by Andres Santos scoring Nunez. Robert Moron then singled to load the bases with no one out. However Juan Jimenez got the next three men, as the score was now 6-2.
Gregorio Martinez ended his night after seven solid innings of work. He gave up two runs on five hits, walked three, and struck out nine. Jason Herman came out to pitch the eighth for Laredo.
The WhiteWings scored in the top of the eighth on a rbi single by Juan Cabrera. That made the score 6-3.
The Broncos added on one more run in the eighth on an Argelis Nunez solo home run, his ninth of the season. Laredo now led 7-3 heading to the ninth.
Fernando Rijo came out for the ninth, and gave up a solo home run to Joaquin Rodriguez, his fourth of the season. Then with two outs, Brian Nichols reached on wild pitch after he struck out. Welinson Baez followed with a two run home run, his second of the season. However, that was all the WhiteWings could manage, as the Broncos won their second straight game by a score of 7-6.
The Broncos scored 7 runs on 14 hits and had 1 error while the WhiteWings scored 6 runs on 10 hits and had 2 errors.
The Broncos are now 17-30 on the season while the WhiteWings are 22-25. The Broncos will next be in action Wednesday July 30th, as they play the finale of a four game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at 7:30.
