BRONCOS BATTLE BACK LOSE ON WALK OFF

July 23, 2009-Amarillo, TX-the Laredo Broncos got two late runs, but fell in the bottom of the ninth to the Amarillo Dillas by a score of 5-4 at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa, on Thursday.
The Dillas started the scoring in the first inning. With two outs and Andrew Wong on second base, Terrance McClain singled Wong in. That gave Amarillo the 1-0 lead.
The Dillas extended their lead in the third. Keanon Simon led off with a single, and then went to third base when a pickoff throw got away from first baseman Alejandro Martinez. With one out, Carlos Figueroa singled in Simon. That made the score 2-0.
The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Argelis Nunez led off the inning with a solo home run, his eighth of the season. The score was now 2-1 in favor of the Dillas.
Laredo threatened in the sixth inning. Luany Sanchez led off with a single, and then went to second on a walk to Argelis Nunez. With Alejandro Martinez batting, the catcher for the Dillas Justin Wenger, and Luany Sanchez caught in a run down. However, the Dillas botched the run down and allowed the runners to move up to second and third base. After Martinez recorded an out, Andres Santos drove in Sanchez with a single. That tied the game at two.
The Dillas answered back in their half of the sixth. RBI singles by Willie James and Keanon Simon gave Amarillo a 4-2 lead.
Jamnik left the game after the second rbi single, going five and two-thirds of an inning. Jamnik gave up four runs, three of which were earned on 11 hits. He did not walk a runner and struck out four. Jason Herman came into the game and finished off the sixth inning.
Herman pitched a scoreless seventh and Carlos Alvarez came in and pitched a scoreless eighth, as the Broncos trailed by two heading to ninth. Matt Smith came into the game for the Dillas looking for the save.
Luis Ugueto started off the inning as a pinch hitter and drew a walk. Then with one out, David Cardona hit a game tying two run home run, his fifth of the season. That tied the game up at 4-4.
The Dillas put runners on the corners with one out in the ninth. Trent Lockwood hit a sacrifice fly to give Amarillo the 5-4 win.
The Broncos scored 4 runs on 9 hits and had 5 errors while the Dillas scored 4 runs on 14 hits and had 2 errors.
The Broncos are now 14-27 on the season while the Dillas are 22-19. The Broncos will next be in action Friday July 24th, as they play game two of a four game series against the Amarillo Dillas in Amarillo at 7:05.
