BRONCOS BATS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF COLTS MISCUES IN VICTORY

San Angelo, TX-the Laredo Broncos belted out 13 hits while the San Angelo Colts continued their defensive struggles, as Laredo took home the victory by a score of 7-1 at Foster Field, on Tuesday.
The Broncos struck first in the top of the 3rd. With 1 out Miguel Ortiz hit a solo home run, his 1st of the season. Mario Mendez followed with a single and went to 2nd on a single by Luany Sanchez. David Cardona then delivered a rbi single scoring Mendez and advancing Sanchez to 3rd. Anthony Bennett came up and hit a rbi double scoring Sanchez and moving Cardona to 3rd. OJ Garza then reached on an error by 2nd baseman Jason Diaz which allowed Cardona to score and Bennett to advance to 3rd. Jaime Morales followed by reaching on a fielder’s choice which scored Bennett. That inning gave Laredo the 5-0 lead.
The Colts got on the scoreboard in their half of the 3rd. Butch Ballez led off with a double and went to 3rd on a groundout. With 2 outs, Ronnie Gaines legged out and infield single which allowed Ballez to score. That made the score 5-1.
The Broncos tacked on a run in the 4th inning. With 2 outs Mario Mendez reached on a single. He then stole 2nd base and went to 3rd when the catcher’s throw went into centerfield. Luany Sanchez then delivered a rbi single scoring Mendez and giving Laredo the 6-1 lead.
Laredo extended their lead in the 7th inning. With 2 outs Anthony Bennett walked. OJ Garza then hit a ground ball to 3rd baseman Blake Shaffer who tried to get Bennett at 2nd, but the throw was low and allowed everyone to be safe. Jaime Morales followed with a rbi single scoring Bennett and making the score 7-1.
Ryan Harris the Broncos’ starter sailed along threw his first 7 innings. The Broncos also played great defense throughout the game and it really showed in the 8th. With 1 out, Ronnie Gaines smacked a ball into the right center field gap. OJ Garza, the Broncos’ centerfielder, ran on a dead sprint and made an amazing diving catch on the warning track, to rob Gaines of a hit. Laredo remained in the lead by 6 runs.
Harris would come out to start the 9th inning looking for the Broncos’ first complete game of the season. He would shut down the Colts 1-2-3, as Laredo went on to win the game by a score of 7-1.
Harris went the full 9 innings giving up only the 1 run on 6 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 6, as he picked up his 2nd victory of the season.
The Broncos scored 7 runs on 12 hits and had no errors while the Colts scored 1 run on 6 hits and had 4 errors.
The Broncos are now 9-17 on the season while the Colts are 17-9. The Broncos will next be in action Wednesday July 8th, as they play game 3 of a 4 game series against the San Angelo Colts in San Angelo at 7:05.
