Washington, DC – Congressman Henry Cuellar today announced that school districts in Webb County stand to gain more than $396,621 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Specifically, Laredo Independent School District will receive $131,100 for the purchase of 19 steamer convection countertops, while United Independent School District will receive $265,521 to buy walk-in freezers/refrigerators, convection ovens, a braising pan, and other equipment needed for day-to-day operations.
“It’s impossible to overstate the importance of these $396,621 for the food and nutrition programs,” said Congressman Cuellar. “Not only are we investing in the local economy, but we are also ensuring that the equipment used to prepare the food for our children is top-of-the-line.”
Congressman Cuellar added, “In addition to investing in the creation of jobs today, this funding will resonate for years to come as Webb County kids grow up into better-educated, healthier adults.”
