Illegal Pet Vending and Rabies Prevention

The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) wants to remind the public that it is against city ordinance for anyone to sell any pets on public right of ways (i.e. sidewalks & parking lots). Illegal pet vending is defined as any sale of any pet on any and all public right of ways.
To reduce the potential of rabies and other vectorborne diseases we want to inform the public that all violators including owners of the property will be cited for conducting illegal pet sales. The CLHD has seen an increase of illegal vendors in the parking lots of restaurants, convenience stores, banks, auto stores, etc.
This type of illegal vending poses a serious danger for the spread of rabies. The Animal Control Program has enhanced patrolling in an attempt to prevent any illegal activity.
We also want to remind the public that a rabies infection can be mortal. Remember it is both local and state law that all pets must be vaccinated against rabies, in Laredo they must be vaccinated yearly.
The Animal Control Program will be hosting their monthly Rabies Clinics on:
