Washington, DC – Congressman Henry Cuellar and the Texas Foreclosure Prevention Task Force today announced a foreclosure prevention and home ownership workshop to assist Laredo area home owners.

The event is slated for Saturday, June 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Texas A&M International University Student Center Room 236, located at 5201 University Blvd in Laredo.

The workshop will consist of an overview of the White House “Making Home Affordable” program, and presentations by the Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Reserve Bank-Dallas, the FDIC, Wells Fargo, Fannie Mae, and the Office of the Attorney General-Texas. The Laredo-Webb Neighborhood Housing Services and the Consumer Credit Counseling Service will attend for on-site consultation with home owners.

“One of the most important pillars that support our nation’s economic structure is the mortgage industry,” said Congressman Cuellar. “During these difficult economic times, it is imperative that we work together to strengthen not only our financial institutions, but to lend a helping hand to struggling home owners.”

Home owners who are struggling with their mortgage payments or who are at risk of foreclosure are encouraged to attend and meet with counseling agencies on-site. Prospective home buyers are also welcome to attend and learn about the mortgage process first-hand from certified agencies and lenders.

“The Texas Foreclosure Prevention Task Force recognizes that there is no single solution to the foreclosure crisis,” said JoAnn DePenning, Statewide Coordinator of the Task Force. “We are proud of the many intervention and prevention efforts that the people and organizations around Texas are undertaking to address the impact of foreclosure in our communities.”
