City of Laredo To Host Home Expo

Extending invitations to companies related to real estate industry

Laredo, TX—June 10, 2009—Throughout the country, people are losing their homes to foreclosure.  In Laredo, the real estate market has been at a standstill, with home sales remaining stagnant, or worse, dropping.   However, according to Mayor Pro Tempore Jose A. Valdez, Jr., empty houses on the market affect the entire community.  “That means that there are less people who are fulfilling the American Dream of home ownership, which ultimately impacts the tax rolls of all local taxing entities and reduces the amount of property taxes local governing agencies have to work with to provide services to the citizens,” he said.

That’s why the City of Laredo, along with their many partners, is hoping to help potential homebuyers understand and eventually get through the process of buying a home.  The City of Laredo will bring together each of the stakeholders in the real estate market and host a Home Expo, on Saturday, July 11, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday, July 12, 2009, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m., all at the Laredo Entertainment Center, 6700 Arena Boulevard.

The City of Laredo is inviting all real estate brokers (no individual agents, please); mortgage lenders; and banks to participate in this expo.

“I encourage you to participate to help answer potential homebuyers questions and help them get on the path to homeownership,” said Valdez.

While there will be NO exhibitor fee costs to participate, each company will be asked to donate a $50 gift card from any retailer in the community, which will be given away during the Expo.  Registration will be taken in person in the City Manager’s Office, located at City Hall, 1110 Houston Street, 3rd Floor, 78040.  Booth assignments will be done on a first come, first serve order.  Deadline to register will be Friday, June 26, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.

For more information about who is eligible to exhibit at the Home Expo, call the City Manager’s Office at 791-7309.

More information about the Home Expo, presentations, breakout sessions, and activities will follow.
