June 24, 2009-Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos offense broke out of their
recent slump as they beat the Amarillo Dillas by a score of 14-4 at Veterans
Field
.

The Dillas struck first in the top of the 2nd inning.  Terrance McClain led
off the inning with a solo home run, his 1st of the year.  That would give
Amarillo the early 1-0 lead.

The Broncos would get on the scoreboard in a big way in the 3rd inning.
Jaime Morales led off with a single and went to 3rd on a David Cardona.
Then OJ Garza drew a walk to load the bases.  After an out was made Argelis
Nunez stepped up and hit a Grand Slam, his 1st home run of the season.  That
gave Laredo their first lead in the ballgame by a score of 4-1.

The Broncos would add on to their lead in the 4th inning.  Robert Moron led
off by getting hit by the pitch.  Moron then stole 2nd, and on a throwing
error by the catcher, moved to 3rd.  Jake Wells then hit a ball back to the
pitcher for the Dillas who tried to throw Moron out at the plate.  However,
the catcher dropped the ball which allowed Moron to scramble back to 3rd and
Wells to be safe at 1st.  The very next batter Jaime Morales hit another
ball back to the pitcher who once again tried to get Moron at home.  This
time the catcher threw to the 3rd baseman Andrew Wong and Wong instead of
tagging out Moron tried to tag out Wells who was going to 3rd.  Wells would
be safe at 3rd and Moron would score on the play with Morales going to 2nd.
David Cardona then walked to load the bases. OJ Garza would hit into a
double play with pinch runner Anthony Bennett scoring after Jake Wells left
with an injury.  Morales would move to 3rd.  Mario Mendez then came up and
hit a rbi single scoring Morales.  Argelis Nunez followed with a double
advancing Mendez to 3rd.  Andres “El Monkey” Santos then joined the party
with a rbi single scoring Mendez and moving Nunez to 3rd.  Amarillo starter
Josh Smith
then threw a wild pitch scoring Nunez from 3rd.  All in all the
Broncos scored 5runs in the inning and took a 9-1 lead.

Laredo starter Gustavo Vasquez had a nice cushion after 4 innings, but the
Dillas got a little bit closer in the 5th.  With 1 out, Willie James
doubled.  He would score on a rbi single by Keanon Simon, who went to 2nd on
the throw home by David Cardona.  Then after a groundout moved him to 3rd,
Carlos Figueroa hit a rbi single scoring Simon and making the score 9-3.

Amarillo’s starter Josh Smith would leave after 5 innings of work, and his
relief pitcher in Eric Smith had his own trouble against the Broncos in the
6th.  OJ Garza led off with a single and then went to 2nd on a single by
Mario Mendez.  Argelis Nunez followed with a walk to load the bases.  After
1 out, Miguel Ortiz doubled down the left field line scoring Garza, Mendez,
and Nunez.  That would extend the Broncos lead to 9.

Broncos’ starter Gustavo Vasquez would leave the game after 6 solid innings
of work.  He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits.  He walked 2 batters and struck out
3.  Carlos Alvarez would come into the game.

The Dillas would get a run in their half of the 7th, on a sacrifice fly by
Andrew Wong.  That would make the score 12-4.

The Broncos would load the bases again in the 8th inning with 2 outs.  David
Cardona and OJ Garza would get rbi singles.  Carlos Alvarez would shut down
Amarillo in the 9th and pick up the save as the Broncos won by a score of
14-4.

4 runs on 10 hits and had 2 errors.
