TAMIU STAR SIGNS WITH BRONCOS

April 24, 2009-Laredo, TX- The Laredo Broncos of the United League announce that they have agreed to terms on a 2009 contract with Texas A&M International University INF Ryan Flynn.

Flynn, who is originally from Latrobe, PA, started his baseball career at Allegany Community College and then transferred to TAMIU. As a sophomore in his first year at TAMIU Flynn earned 2nd team all-Heartland Conference honors. But, that was just the tip of the iceberg as he had his breakout year as a Junior in the 2008 season. Flynn earned first team all-Heartland Conference honors that year as he led his team and was 8th in the conference with a .383 batting average. He also led TAMIU in hits, doubles, RBI, and walks.

His last year as a Dustdevil was also a successful one for Flynn, as he was once again was named 1st team all-Heartland Conference. He once again led the team with a .358 batting average and also led the team in walks with 26, and was 2nd on the team in home runs with 6. Flynn is also a great defensive player, as last season in 206 opportunities he only had 12 errors playing the tough position of shortstop. Broncos Field Manager Ricardo Cuevas is glad to have Flynn as a Bronco. “Ryan Flynn is a nice pickup for the Laredo Broncos. He can hit and he can play defense. He will fit right in with the makeup of the team.”

Since Flynn, has now completed all of his eligibility in college he is now deemed a professional player. He is free to sign with any professional baseball team he wants, and Broncos General Manager Jose Melendez can’t wait for Flynn to start playing.. “With the signing of Ryan Flynn, the Broncos have signed their first ever TAMIU Dustdevil to a contract. Flynn has shown through his college career that he is a solid baseball player, and I am glad that we were able to sign him and have him be a part of this Broncos team.”

The TAMIU Dustdevils are sad to see a player like Flynn go, but the President of TAMIU Dr. Ray Keck III is glad Flynn has teamed up with the Broncos. “We congratulate Ryan on this tremendous accomplishment. He has been a remarkable student-athlete here at TAMIU and we look forward to hearing of his continued success as a professional baseball player.” TAMIU Athletic Director Dr. Debbie Snell echoes that statement. “I am so excited Ryan will stay in Laredo and play for the Broncos. He is a fine young man and great in his career at TAMIU. Head baseball coach Chad Porter will enjoy being able to watch Flynn play close to home.”

The Laredo Broncos begin their 4th season in 2009. The Broncos will play an 80 game season from June to September with 36 home games at Veterans Field.
