Rebekah Hernandez Third Place Winner in Statewide Competition

AUSTIN – Rebekah Hernandez, a 12-year old student at Clark Middle School in Laredo, was the third place winner in the statewide competition for an entry in the 2009 International Aviation Art Contest. She competed in the 10- to 13-year-old category.
Hernandez received a certificate and was recognized for artistic talent during the 27th Annual Texas Aviation Conference held in Austin this week.
The theme of this year’s art contest was “World Air Games.”
Entries were judged in one of three age groups, 6- to 9-years old, 10- to 13-years old and 14- to 17- years old. This year 389 students participated in the art contest statewide.
The annual International Aviation Art Contest is sponsored by the National Aeronautic Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials and Federal Aviation Administration in cooperation with the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI). The art contest is designed to motivate and encourage young people of FAI-member nations to become more familiar with and participate in aeronautics, engineering and science.
The 27th Annual Texas Aviation Conference was sponsored by TxDOT, the Texas Airports Council and the Texas Aviation Association. Participants included airport managers, city and county officials, the Federal Aviation Administration and others interested in aviation in Texas.
