Firefighters’ “Fill the Boot” Campaign

Today, represenatives from the Muscular Dystrophy Association, City of Laredo Fire Chief Steve Landin, and other fire fighters, joined Mayor Raul G. Salinas as he welcomed Vidal Lozano Jr., this year’s MDA’s local spokesperson, to promote the firefighters’ “Fill the Boot” campaign, the annual MDA fundraiser held by Laredo’s bravest. The drive begins tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 and continues at various intersections throughout Laredo, until Friday, April 24, 2009. Laredoans are asked to open their hearts – and their wallets – to help this worthy cause where 90% of the money collected stays here in Laredo to help those in need.Bonnie Garcia Elementary School.
The association between MDA and firefighters begin in the 1950’s when a firefighter was struck with MDA and this was how they helped raise funds for him.
