WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (D-McAllen) issued the statement below in honor of Memorial Day:
“Initially intended to honor the fallen soldiers of the Civil War, the final Monday in May has taken on a larger significance as we remember the sacrifices made by our valiant men and women in uniform. Members of our armed forces put their lives on the line every day to protect and defend our great nation. Their bravery in the face of adversity, selflessness, and perseverance are values that we as a nation must never forget. These men and women serve as an example of true American greatness.
“As we enjoy this holiday, let us keep in our hearts and on our minds the heroes that gave so much, and continue to give so much, to guarantee our freedom.”
