McAllen- The McAllen Police Department just saved tax payers $3.8 million with their new parking garage. On Thursday, March 9, Mayor Jim Darling and Chief Victor Rodriguez hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the multimillion dollar parking garage that will be located behind the McAllen Public Safety Building at 1601 N. Bicentennial Blvd.

The new parking structure will consist of 134 parking spaces on the ground level and 24 parking spaces for an impound lot. The second level will have 136 parking spaces for McAllen Public Safety employees who will access the building by a bridge to the second floor. There will be two stairwells located at each end of the structure with a lighting accent.

“This project will address immediate and future parking concerns. We are thankful for the opportunity to continue the development of the McAllen Public Safety Building. This project is reflective of McAllen’s ever expanding growth in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Chief Victor Rodriguez.

The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2017.
