Laredo, Texas/United ISD:  Several news outlets, that will include radio, television and newspaper, will be named to the 2015 Media Honor Roll tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the SAC Auditorium, located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane, during the regular monthly meeting of the United ISD Board of Trustees. The program is sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) and by the United Independent School District. The program recognizes local media entities for their support of United ISD and public school education.

“As we begin a new school year, United ISD would like to say “thank you” to these news entities for their support throughout the 2014-15 school year. Their coverage of our District allowed us to share the challenges that we faced as a District, as well as the successes achieved by our teachers and students,” said United ISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos

Criteria for the district’s selection of honorees included the media representative’s efforts to get to know the superintendent, board of trustees, the district’s mission and goals, report school news in a fair, accurate, and balanced manner, give a high profile to positive news about schools, and visit schools.

The entities that are being recognized tonight include: City of Laredo Public Access Channel, El Diario, El Lider, El Manaña, Laredo Morning Times (including El Tiempo de Laredo, LMT Online and LMT College Guide), Guerra Communications, I Love Laredo newspaper, KBNL Radio, KGNS, NGNS, CBS & Telemundo, KHOY Radio, Kid’s Connection, La Raza Radio Station, Laredo Buzz, RCommunications, and Univision, Uni-mas & FOX. Additionally, the late Raul Gutierrez, publisher of the Greater Laredo magazine, will receive a posthumous recognition from the Board of Trustees and Superintendent.

“Each media entity plays a vital role in communicating District news and information to our parents, students, and community,” added Superintendent Santos.

Laredo’s honorees will now join the various other Texas newspapers, radio, television stations, and online publications that have been inducted by their local school districts.
