Tomorrow’s Teachers at united isd are growing…

TT-1Courtesy Carmen Rendon,

(Laredo, Tx)-The Tomorrow’s Teachers Program is a program sponsored by the Department of Human Resources and was created to meet the teacher shortage challenge by “growing” our own teachers from the talented pool of students in our District.  The Tomorrow’s Teachers Program is a district-wide initiative that ranges from 3rd grade students through high school seniors.   The elementary and middle schools Tomorrow’s Teachers assist the students in the lower grades with classwork and special assignments.  High school junior and senior students enrolled in TAFE (Texas Association of Future Educators) learn about the teaching profession, and are able to explore their interests and abilities by experiencing hands-on in the classroom with their very own created lesson plans.

Once a year, United ISD Tomorrow’s Teachers meet in the auditorium of the UISD Bill Johnson Student Activity Complex to share their new lesson plans with the younger future teachers.  High school TAFE teams from each of the four high schools performed educational skits and conducted small group projects with all the elementary and middle school students in attendance.
