Join Us in Support of Sheriff Cuellar’s Fight Against Diabetes

Sheriff Martin Cuellar is competing for the chance to kiss a REAL PIG in this year’s Kiss-A-Pig contest.  The ADA holds the Kiss-A-Pig Fundraising Gala to create greater awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes and to promote the role pigs have played as a source of insulin for the diabetic.  In this campaign, local business professionals compete to thank the pig for producing the first source of insulin by raising the most dollars for diabetes research and education.  Each vote collected represents a one-dollar donation …

Webb County, TX – Webb County Judge Danny Valdez will be hosting a Bucket Brigade on Saturday, November 14, 2009 in order to raise money for the American Diabetes Association’s Kiss-A-Pig fundraiser. Judge Valdez is a candidate for the Kiss-A-Pig event. The individual who raises the most money will gain the honor of kissing a pig, a gesture which commemorates the role that the pig has playing in the discovery of insulin.  The 5th Annual HEB Holiday Bowl is right around the corner and it needs some spirit!

Texas Recycles Day is an annual, statewide, public awareness event, first launched to encourage Texans to start recycling or to enhance their recycling efforts. Texas Recycles Day served as a model for America Recycles Day, the national event.
 Texas Recycles Day is an opportunity to highlight and promote interest in recycling.  CenterPoint Energy crews will be closing the southbound west lane of the 3100 blocks of SAN BERNARDO, and the 1100 block of GRANT due to emergency maintenance repairs by CenterPoint Energy in the areas.  The closures will be for today, Thursday, November 12, 2009.
