SCHOOL IMMUNIZATION REQUIRMENT CHANGES 2009-10 School Year

The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) would like to remind all parents to get their children and teenagers immunized now, especially with new immunization requirements for students entering kindergarten and seventh (7th) grade. All students will need to provide a current immunization record.

Vaccines remain the best protective measure against very serious vaccine preventable diseases in particular polio, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, haemophilus influenzae B meningitis, tetanus, diphtheria, and influenza among others. We also offer the HPV (human papiloma) and Meningitis vaccine. Beginning SY 2009-10 immunization requirement changes are:

… Meningococcal vaccine: 7th grade requirement
… Varicella vaccine: 2 dose requirement for Kindergarten and 7th grade entry
… Tdap vaccine: 1 dose requirement for 7th grade
… MMR vaccine: 2 dose requirement for kindergarten entry
… Hepatitis A vaccine: 2 dose requirement for kindergarten entry

Don’t put your child at risk – immunize them now!

Where: City of Laredo Health Department (2600 Cedar)
WIC Clinics (if child is a WIC participant, siblings to age 17 can also get vaccinated).

When: Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Evening Clinics are available every Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

There is a minimal fee of $4.00 per child, and a maximum of $12.00 per family (WIC participants and siblings at no cost). If however, someone cannot pay the fee, services will not be denied.
