On Friday, October 22, 2010, at approximately 2:22 pm, the Laredo Police Department Communication Section received a 911 call from a man in North Laredo reporting that he had received several calls to his cellular telephone from an unknown female asking for help from an unknown cell number which was being blocked on his caller id.  According to the complainant, at approximately 2:14 pm, the unknown female, who sounded like she was crying, called and told the man that she had be taken by force and was being held against her will.  According to the complainant he stated that the unknown female told him that she had grabbed a phone from the location she was being held at and speed dialed the first number the phone had programmed. According to the complainant, the unknown female told him that she had been drugged and feared for her life.  At approximately 2:22 pm, after becoming scared and worried for the safety of the female, the complainant proceeded to contact the Laredo Police Department to report the incident.

At approximately 2:30 pm, a Laredo Police Department Patrol Officer met with the complainant.  While speaking with the complainant, a third call was received from the same unknown female, while in the presence of the officer, the unknown female appeared to be crying and once again proceeded to ask for help before hanging up.  The Laredo Police Department Criminal Investigations Division activated an investigation into the incident.  Throughout the afternoon detectives and patrol division were in the process of trying to find the source of the distressed woman.

At approximately 7:55 pm, an anonymous tip contacted Laredo Police and gave detailed information about the woman in distress call made earlier in the afternoon.  The anonymous caller stated that a girl by the name of Angelica Garcia, age 20, was presently at a restaurant located at the 7600 San Dario.  Caller stated that the distress nature of the call was a prank and that the woman was not in danger.  Laredo Police detectives were given a physical description and even a cell number for Angelica Garcia.  Laredo Police Detectives arrived within minutes to the reported restaurant, located at 7603 San Dario Ave.

Investigators entered the establishment as Investigators placed a call to the cell number given by the anonymous caller, which was answered by a female identified as Angelica GARCIA who was sitting eating at a table.  Angelica GARCIA was escorted out of the restaurant to determine if she was the person that had been placing the calls for help.  While outside the restaurant, Angelica GARCIA stated that she was the owner of the cell phone and that it had been in her possession the entire day.  After determining that Angelica Garcia’s life was not in danger, she was transported to the Laredo Police Department for questioning.  Upon arrival at the Laredo Police Department, detectives interviewed Angelica GARCIA.  After waiving her rights, Angelica GARCIA stated to detectives that she and a friend of hers, who she refused to identify, made the above-mentioned prank calls to the complainant.  Angelica GARCIA admitted that she and her friend were only playing.

Detectives contacted the Webb County District Attorney’s office who after reviewing the facts of the case approved an arrest warrant charging Angelica GARCIA with False Alarm or Report to Police C/A.  On October 22, 2010, Justice of the Peace Oscar Liendo issued an arrest warrant and set bond at $5,000.00.

Angelica GARCIA, was arrested and remanded to the Webb County Jail in lieu of $5,000.00 bond.
