The Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts will be hosting a voter registration drive at all LISD high schools to register students to vote. On Wednesday, September 29, the magnet school will visit Cigarroa High School at 8:30 a.m. and Martin High at 10:30 a.m.
The registration drive is becoming an annual event for the VMT, where faculty and students are planning their Annual “Rock the Vote” event scheduled for Thursday, October 5th at St. Peters Plaza. Both events encourage local youth to learn about races and issues, as well as the importance of voting. At Rock the Vote, students will participate in mock elections and study different candidates and their issues.
“The registration drive is being held to promote citizenship, the power of one voice and to celebrate and honor our basic rights and freedoms as guaranteed by our constitution,” stated Dr. Martha Villarreal VMT Director.
On Tuesday more than 450 eligible students registered to vote at Nixon High School.
The event is sponsored by the VMT Government Club. Representatives from the Republican and Democratic parties will also be on hand.
