Laredo Commission for Women to Visit with the Abuelitos

Courtesy Xochitl Mora,

The Laredo Commission for Women are dedicated to reaching out to the community and impacting Laredo in powerful and meaningful acts of love and leadership, on behalf of the City elected officials who appointed them to the commission.   They will continue that mission this Sunday as they celebrate Grandparents’ Day with local elderly individuals.

“It’s our way of giving back a little tender loving care to these elderly individuals who may not have family close by to be able to celebrate them on this day,” said Alice Garcia, member of the Commission and chair of the Grandparents’ Day event.  “This bit of love that we are giving them is an expression of the community’s affection and respect for their contributions to Laredo and to their families.”

This year, 124 residents at Retama Manor West will receive goody-bags from the Commission, which will include hand sanitizers, hand lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, wipes and tissues.  Additionally, the ladies will visit with the residents that day, playing Bingo, enjoying sugar-free cookies and coffee, and just generally sharing the afternoon with them.
