(September 2nd, EDINBURG, TX)-The Broncos mustered only four hits in the ball game against four Road Runners pitchers, who combined for the first shut-out against the Broncos in 2010. Edinburg brought home three runs in the bottom of the first and in the end that was enough, eliminating the Broncos from the 2010 ULB postseason 2 –1.
The Broncos and Road Runners faced off in a one game playoff to decide who would take on Amarillo in the ULB championship series in 2010 at Edinburg Stadium. The Broncos sent RHP Santo Hernandez (8-4, 0-1) to the mound to face off against RHP Eric Montoya (9-6, 0-0) of the Road Runners in the deciding game three in Edinburg.
In the bottom of the first after the Broncos stranded the bases loaded in the top half of the first inning, the Road Runners got a long ball off the bat of Ambiorix Concpecion that gave the ‘Runners a 3-0 lead. Felix Molina singled and Nelson Teilon had walked in front of Concpecion.
Edinburg plated one more run in the bottom of the second after a lead off single by Alexis Hernandez, Osiel Flores brought him home with an RBI double to the deepest part of the ball park to make it 4-0 Road Runners. Flores was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and thrown out at the plate trying to tag up on a Pino fly ball to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth with one out Osiel Flores hit a slow roller to Broncos third baseman Jonathan Cisneros, his throw to first sailed over D.J Dixon’s glove and ended up in the Road Runner dugout for a two base error and Wilmper Pino brought home Flores with an RBI double to make it 5-0.
The Broncos were gifted four walks in the top of the fifth inning. Loyola walked to lead off the inning and was thrown out trying to steal second base. Jason Diaz walked; followed by a walk D.J Dixon walk and finally a Jose Canseco walk to load the bases. Montoya’s night was over and RHP Mark Dibernardo (10-5, 1-0) came into the game and got Jonathan Cisneros to pop out to Wilmer Pino to end the inning.
Montoya pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two hits, no runs; he walked seven and struck out five.
Dibernardo pitched a scoreless inning and two-thirds, allowing only one hit to the Broncos offense.
The Broncos through the first seven innings had just three hits against Road Runner pitching, though they had received seven walks as well; stranding all nine base runners in the game.
The Broncos picked up one base runner in the final three innings of the ball game, going in order in the seventh against Dibernardo and Silva and again in the eighth against Silva and RHP Julio Castro, who closed it out in the ninth, allowing just a single to Maiko Loyola.
