Broncos Fall to White Wings

(August 25th, HARLINGEN, TX) -Matt Gibbs threw a complete game five hit two run ball game and his offense left him one hit short of a win. The Broncos stranded the tying run at third base in the top of the ninth and lost to the White Wings 2-1 in game three of the series. The Broncos fall to fourth place in the United League standings trailing the Wings by one game.

 The Broncos, losers of two in a row against the White Wings found themselves tied for third place with the Wings at the start of the day. To get the Broncos back into the win column they sent RHP Matt Gibbs (7-4) to the mound to face off against former Bronco RHP Steve Raburn (5-3), making his sixth start for the White Wings.

 The Broncos offense strung together six hits through the first four innings against Raburn and stranded a runner at third base in their best chance to score and the game was tied 0-0 to the bottom half of the fourth.

 The White Wings had only one hit through the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth when they picked up three hits in the inning.  Luany Sanchez reached on an infield hit to start things off.  An RBI double by Yeury Tejeda brought home Sanchez and gave the Wings the 1-0 lead.  After a Ventura fly out Brian Nichols knocked in his first run as a White Wing and gave the Wings the 2-0 lead. 

 Salvador Paniagua, leading off the top of the seventh for the Broncos against Raburn got all of a high fastball that he put out of the ball park for his 21st home run of the year, picking up RBI number 76 and making the score 2-1 Wings.

 Raburn walked Jason Diaz to start the top of the eighth and then retired Maiko Loyola on a fly out before departing after 7.1 innings of one run, seven hit baseball. Raburn walked two and struck out four, he left with a 2-1 lead in line for the win.

 RHP Ruben De La Rosa (1-1) came on and threw on pitch to D.J Dixon and got an inning ending double play ball in the top of the eighth.

 Matt Gibbs threw a complete game, eight innings, five hit baseball game allowing two runs, walking one and striking out seven, Gibbs unfortunately was the tough luck loser in tonight’s ball game.

 In the top of the ninth the Broncos got a lead off single and a throwing error by the left fielder Welington Dotel that moved Pacheco to second base.  Cisneros hit a ground ball that moved Pacheco to third base. Salvador Paniagua struck out and Carlos Arroyo then grounded out to end the ball game.
