Broncos win fifth in a row, force three way tie for third place

August 15th, LAREDO, TX-The Broncos won their fifth game in a row by hitting four long balls, including two by Jonathan Cisneros and took game one against the White Wings  11-9, to force a three way tie for third place in the United League.

 The Broncos welcomed the Rio Grand Valley White Wings into Veterans Field for a four game series with playoff implications for both the White Wings and the Broncos.  Laredo sent RHP Matt Gibbs (6-3) to the mound to try to push the winning streak to five games in a row.  The White Wings countered with former Bronco RHP Steve Raburn (3-3).

 The Broncos grabbed the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jason Diaz reached on the infield single.  Maiko Loyola dropped a sacrifice bunt down that moved Diaz to third after a throwing error put Diaz on second base.  D.J Dixon then brought Diaz home on another infield single to give the Broncos the lead.

 Gibbs held the White Wings scoreless for the first three innings and the Broncos added to their lead in the bottom of the third.  Maiko Loyola tripled down the right field line and the relay throw went past the third baseman Leivi Ventura and that allowed Loyola to score from third and give the Broncos the 2-0 lead.

 The White Wings began to score in a hurry in the top of the fourth. Leivi Ventura hit his seventh home run against the Broncos to start the scoring for the White Wings making the score 2-1 Broncos. After a Welington Dotel fly out, Gibbs issued back-to-back walks.  Yuki Matzumoto then hit a fielder’s choice ground ball that Diaz threw past the third base bag.  That allowed a run to score and moved runners to second and third.  Roberto Rodriguez chopped one out in front of the plate that Salvador Paniagua threw down the right field line that allowed two more runs to score and give the White Wings the 4-2 lead.

 Carlos Arroyo hit a solo home run, his fourth of the year and second in three games to get a run back and make the score 4-3 White Wings heading to the top of the fifth.

 Gibbs again held the Wings scoreless in the fifth and the Broncos brought home six runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Laredo sent ten men to the plate in the frame, a lead off single by D.J Dixon started it off. Pacheco hit a two run homer to give the Broncos the 5-4 lead, followed by a solo home run by Jonathan Cisneros to make the score 6-4.  Salvador Paniagua then singled and the spelled the end of the night for Raburn.  RHP Miguel Matos () came out of the bullpen and allowed a single to Nick Mahin. Carlos Arroyo dropped down a sacrifice bunt that Leivi Ventura threw down the right field line that allowed Paniagua and Mahin to score and Arroyo to reach third base. Mike Murphy then brought Arroyo home with an RBI fielder’s choice and the score was 9-4 Broncos.

 Gibbs started the top of the sixth and walked the bases loaded before allowing an RBI fielder’s choice to make the game 9-5 Broncos.  That was the end of the night for Gibbs, he pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three hits, six runs (three earned), he walked six and struck out four. 

 LHP Brian Buchanan came in and allowed an RBI ground out to Roberto Rodriguez and the score was 9-6 Broncos.

 In the bottom of the eighth Jonathan Cisneros, with one on and one out hit his second home run of the game, a two run shot that extended the Broncos lead to 11-6.

 De La Cruz started the ninth and allowed a walk to Rodriguez before picking up two outs.  Tejeda reached on an infield single and Leivi Ventura hit his second home run of the game, a three run bomb that made it 11-9 Broncos.

 RHP Reyes Dorado (2-0) came out of the bullpen and struck out Dom Di Ricco with two runners on to end the game and pick up his fourth save of the year, and secure the Broncos 11-9 victory.

 The Broncos and White Wings play game two of their four game series tonight night at Veterans Field; first pitch at 7:35 PM. Jose Canseco, the newest member of the Broncos is supposed to make is ULB debut.
