FEMA Help Now Available

Help is now available for area residents who were affected by the rain and floods caused by Hurricane Alex, this after President Barack Obama declared Texas a disaster area Tuesday night.
“This is welcomed news to the hundreds of people that were affected by the damage caused by Hurricane Alex,” said Webb County Judge Danny Valdez. “This will allow people to start the process to getting their lives back to normal,” added the Judge.
The Judge is urging all those affect by the storm to immediately apply for disaster assistance. There are several ways to apply. One is by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by going online at www.disasterassistance.gov.
The following information will be needed when making the application:
- A phone number where you can be reached
- Social Security Number
- Current mailing address
- Address of the affected property
- Brief description of the damages
- Insurance information including policy number
Requests for assistance is capped at $29,900 with the average being awarded being between $4,000 to $7,000. The process to get assistance takes anywhere from five to ten working days.
