Broncos Defeat Colts 2-1 in a Tight One at Veterans Field; Win Third Straight

June 15th, LARDO, TX –The Broncos (8-12) defeated the Colts (8-12) in a nail biter; 2-1 to win their third straight and ensure, at the very least a series split with San Angelo in Laredo.

RHP Dimitri Camareno (1-2) making his team leading fifth start of the season for the Broncos squared off against RHP Chandler Barnard (0-1).

The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Doug Thennis reached on an infield single. Gabe Memmert then stroked an RBI double to plate Thennis and pick up his 11th RBI of the season. 

The Colts would tie the game in the top of the third when Camareno walked Butch Ballez.  Ballez then moved to second on a wild pitch.  Two more walks loaded the bases and Ballez came home on a passed ball charged to Dustin Spruill and the game was tied 1-1.

In the bottom of the third the Broncos would take the lead again 2-1 after Jason Diaz reached on an error.  Diaz was bunted to third by Ryan Flynn and came home to score on an RBI ground out by Kenny Gilbert. 

Dimitri Camareno and Chandler Barnard would lock horns the rest of the way, neither pitcher allowing another run. 

Camareno was pulled after six innings, allowing seven hits, and walking three with five strikeouts.  He gave way to Micheal Lucas who went two strong innings allowing only a hit.  Lucas in the eighth gave up a lead off double and then struck out the side to end the inning.

Camareno was matched by Barnard, who went 8.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs. Only one run was earned, he walked two and struck out five.

In the ninth it was RHP Franklyn Gracesqui out on the mound for his second save opportunity in as many days. He faced four batters in the ninth and shut the door on the Colts to secure Camareno’s first victory of the year and his second save of the year.
