Broncos bust slump, bang out 12 runs on 19 hits; defeat the Dillas 12-8

(June 8th) – The Broncos (4-9) banged out 12 runs on 19 hits, both season highs, to pick up their fourth win of the season, defeating the Dillas (7-6) by the score of 12-8 and give Brian Buchanan his first win in three years.
Brian Buchanan (1-1, 7.47) made his third start of 2010 and first against Amarillo. Buchanan was cruising through the first four inning of work he had allowed only three hits and no runs to the Dillas.
Taylor Allen (1-1, 9.00) making his third start for the Dillas ran into trouble in the top of the second. Thennis doubled and was brought home by a two out double by Ryan Flynn to make the score 1-0 Broncos.
In the top of the third inning the Bronco bats came alive again. Wolgamot was hit by a pitch, and after a SAC bunt by Gilbert, Nick Mahin came up and hit an RBI double to make the score 2-0 Broncos. After a Spruill groundout, Thennis knocked home Mahin and the lead was 3-0 Broncos.
For the third consecutive inning in this game the Broncos bats exploded. In the top of the fifth they picked up five hits alone. Flynn led the offense off with a walk and then Diaz singled, Wolgamot reached on an infield single and with the bases loaded Gilbert lined a two run single to make the score 5-0 Broncos. Nick Mahin followed up with an RBI single to make the score 6-0 Broncos and Dustin Spruill joined the RBI party with a single that pushed the lead to 7-0 Broncos.
The Dillas reminded everybody watching they were still there in the fifth. Buchanan was still on the mound with one out and Jermel Lomack hit a single. De La Garza walked, and Joaquin Rodriguez knocked in the first Dilla run of the game.
Carlos Figueroa would continue the Dilla scoring in the inning with an RBI single to make the score 7-2 Broncos. Alberto Cruz hit a SAC fly to end the scoring for the Dillas in the fifth when Figeuroa was thrown out trying to get back to first base; the score was 7-3 Broncos.
Taylor Allen only went 3.1 IP and allowed seven runs on nine hits, he walked two and struck out two.
In the top of the eighth inning with Zack Cole (0-0, 3.86) on the mound Wolgamot singled, Gilbert doubled and Nick Mahin doubled to pick up his third and fourth RBI of the game and push the lead to 9-3 Broncos. Mahin would come home to score on a wild pitch by Cole and the score was 10-3 Broncos.
Kris Jiggitts (0-0, 7.36) relieved Buchanan in the sixth and was still on the mound in the eighth. He would get a spectacular catch from center fielder David Fowler to start things off in the eighth and then allow a solo home run to Alberto Cruz. Another diving catch by Kenny Gilbert recorded the second out of the inning and then Douglas singled and T.J Warren hit a two run homer and the score was 10-6 Broncos.
Andy Noonan (0-0, 10.12) would come out of the Dilla bullpen in the top of the ninth and walk Flynn to start the inning. He then walked Diaz and a Wolgamot fly out moved Flynn over to third. Diaz then stole second base and Gilbert hit an RBI groundout to plate the Broncos 11th run of the game. Mahin was then intentionally walked and Spruill came up and picked up his second RBI of the night with a single and the lead was 12-6 Broncos.
In the bottom of the ninth Christian Staehely (0-0, 9.00) came out of the bullpen to close out the win for the Broncos. Staehely got Lomack to fly out and then walked De La Garza. Rodriguez singled and after a Carlos Figueroa fly out Alberto Cruz walked to load the bases. Matt Cerani; the hero from last nights game came up and lined a two run single into left field and the score was 12-8 Broncos.
Manager Firova went to the bullpen and brought in Vinnie Dechristofaro (0-2, 1.29) for the save. Dechristofaro struck out Stephen Douglas to end the game and the Broncos picked up their fourth win of the season.
