Cache of Weapons and Ammunition Seized Over Memorial Day Weekend

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Saturday May 30, 2010, Webb County Sheriff’s Office, Crime Stoppers Division received information of a vehicle suspected of transporting contraband. Webb County disseminated the information to all law enforcement agencies. A Laredo Police Department Patrol Unit stopped the vehicle heading East on International Boulevard. Although the passenger of the vehicle attempted to abscond on foot, LPD officers apprehended him. LPD subsequently discovered a cache of weapons and ammunition in the van. The occupants of the vehicle were transported to Laredo Police Department for questioning. The total number of weapons seized was 147 assault rifles, 263 high capacity magazines, and approximately 10,000 rounds of ammunition. Webb County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with federal law enforcement partners have initiated an investigation which is continuing.
