The newest addition of the Laredo Police Department’s fleet will be showcased today at City Hall prior to tonight’s Council Meeting. The new LPD “Black and White” police cruiser is covered in retro style black and white colors, falling in line with the nationally recognized, traditional police car. Not only is the vehicle a mode of transportation but it is actually the police officer’s mobile office. The car is equipped with a Motorola MW-810 mobile computer terminal that is connected to the department’s record management system. This allows the officer to not only add reports in a matter of minutes but enhances the officer’s safety by allowing him to view criminal history with pictures, reach dispatch without the use of police radio, and get criminal record returns of wanted criminals from Texas Crime Information Center. The car also comes with a digital dash camera system, speed radar, gun racks, pulsating whelen sonic siren system, Global Positioning System, 800 MHz digital trunked radio system, and L.E.D. lighted emergency lights.
The cars have the newest in technology and have also integrated the city seal to incorporate the fact that each officer on patrol is also a City of Laredo ambassador. The car comes with the traditional police mantra “Serve and Protect” across the finished white paint.
