Sheriff’s Deputies Seize Over One Half Million Dollars in US Currency

 Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Office seized over one half million dollars in US currency.

 While conducting a traffic stop on a white cargo van for multiple traffic violations at the intersection of Rancho Viejo and Albany, Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies requested consent to search, consent to search was granted by the driver.  While searching the vehicle, a K-9 alerted Deputies to the presence of currency inside a blue suit case.  Upon investigation, Deputies discovered $500,235 sealed in 24 plastic bags.

A subject linked to this case was turned over to US Border Patrol, investigation continues by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

 “Our K-9 Units are alert and well trained to conduct these types of searches, as a team we will continue to take narcotics off the streets and continue to seize forfeiture money”. Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
