Laredo, Texas (Webb county) – On February 15, 2010, at approximately 3:44 a.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies seized over $26,000 in US currency.
While patrolling on Interstate 35 North near mile marker 24, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Kia 4 door vehicle for multiple traffic violations. Upon further investigation and receiving consent to search the vehicle, Deputies were able to locate a hidden compartment where they found a large amount of US currency totaling over $26,000. The currency was wrapped in bundles and sealed in food saver clear bags. The driver was a native of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, no arrest was made at the time of the stop. Investigation continues.
“I am very proud of the work that our Deputies have done during this traffic stop. Seizures of narcotics and US currency were record breaking in 2009 and it is obvious that we are continuing that trend in 2010.” Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
