Catholic Schools Week Proclamation

Earlier today, District IV Council Juan Narvaez, on behalf of City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas, welcomed Superintendent of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Laredo Dr. Rosa Maria Vida, as well as representatives from all six Catholic schools in Laredo, to proclaim the week Catholic Schools Week in Laredo. Narvaez, a grandfather to a child enrolled in a local Catholic school, highlighted the quality of a Catholic school education as its main advantaged; Dr. Vida, agreed, thanking parents for making the financial sacrifice to be able to sending their children to Catholic schools. Additionally, Owens, on behalf of all Catholic schools, presented a rosary to Cm. Narvaez for Mayor Salinas. Present at today’s meeting were Sylvia Cortez, principal and Andrea De La Miyar, 4th grader, St. Augustine Elementary School; Olga Gentry, Olga Gentry, principal, and Alexa Serna, senior, St. Augustine High School; Sister Suzanne Miller, principal and Katherine Bradford, 1st grader, Mary Help of Christians School; Carmelita Alaniz, librarian and Vanessa Lara, K-4 (and Narvaez’s granddaughter), Blessed Sacrament Elementary School; Dr. Vida; Cm. Narvaez; Hugo Alfaro, 7th grader and Dr. Linda Mitchell, St. Peter’s Memorial School; and Herlinda Martinez, principal and James Owen, 1st grader, Our Lady of Guadalupe Schools.
