( Laredo , TX): The January 12th earthquake in Haiti has claimed nearly 100,000 lives and left nearly 1 million people homeless. The country, already one of the poorest in the world, has been devastated by this tragedy.
We, in Laredo , can help ease their suffering and aid in their rebuilding efforts by giving to the Laredo Haitian Relief Project.
Established by Mayor Raul Salinas and coordinated by volunteer citizen Tricia Cortez, the Laredo Haitian Relief Project includes numerous partners throughout the city, including the Laredo Heat Soccer Club.
A two-week collection drive, monetary donations ONLY, will run now until February 1, 2010. The group will then send a check to three humanitarian agencies that are on the ground in Haiti — Habitat for Humanity, Doctors Without Borders and the American Red Cross.
We ask that you open your hearts and give. Any amount will help. An IBC account has been opened, 2111-696-781, and checks can be made out to “Laredo Haitian Relief Project” or “Laredoans for Haiti .”
Thank you for your generosity and help. Let’s show that Laredo cares, and help make this drive a terrific success!
