LPD Narcotics Unit Make bust

On Friday January 8, 2010 at approximately 12 p.m., members of the Laredo Police Department’s Narcotics Unit had reliable information that bundles of marijuana were being transported in a black Chevrolet Impala from south Laredo to North Laredo. Surveillance was immediately set up on the suspected vehicle. The vehicle left a residence in south Laredo and traveled to north Laredo where it met up with another vehicle and proceeded back to south Laredo. Both vehicles stopped on the 800 block of S. Arkansas where members of the LPD Narcotics Unit approached and discovered four bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 316 pounds.
Arrested at the scene was Miguel Angel Lara Jr. Jose Francisco Ortiz , Jesus Mercado, Rodolfo Mercado , Maria Zulema Ortiz and a male juvenile. All subjects arrested were charged with Possession of Marijuana F/2 and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity F/1. All Subjects except the juvenile were remanded to the Webb Co. Jail under no bond and the Juvenile was remanded to the Webb Co. Juvenile Detention Center.
