Drivers Can Call and Prepay Before Traveling

(Laredo, TX) – Starting Monday, December 14, drivers who plan to use the Camino Colombia toll road (SH 255) can call ahead to prepay their toll charges using a Camino Colombia Day Pass. Motorists can no longer pay with cash or a swipe card at a toll booth.

Prepaying tolls is simple and takes only a few minutes. Before traveling on the Camino Colombia toll road, drivers without a TxTag account should call the Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824 inside the U.S. or 001-512-874-9998 for international customers, request a Camino Colombia Day Pass, and provide the following information:

●    Number of trips planned on the Camino Colombia toll road
●    Vehicle’s license plate number, make and model
●    Mailing address
●    Valid credit card number (Discover, Visa, MasterCard and American Express accepted)

Customer service representatives will determine the cost of the trip, based on the type of vehicle and number of trips, and charge the customer’s credit card for the total amount. Camino Colombia Day Passes are non-refundable and a credit card is required. Also, funds cannot be transferred to another vehicle. However, the amount applied to the Day Pass does not have to be used within a certain time period. Since the funds do not expire, customers may choose to prepay any dollar amount to
their Day Pass.

A one-way trip on Camino Colombia using the Camino Colombia Day Pass for most passenger vehicles and motorcycles will cost $3.99. Trucks and vehicles pulling trailers pay higher toll rates. Toll rates for all vehicles and more information about the Camino Colombia Day Pass can be found at www.caminocolombia.org.

Drivers with insufficient funds on their prepaid Camino Colombia Day Pass will receive a Pay By Mail bill for the additional toll charges, including the standard $1 Pay By Mail fee. Registered vehicle owners are responsible for payment of the tolls and fees specified on the bill. Failure to pay will result in the issuance of a Notice of Toll Violation that includes administrative fees as authorized under Texas Transportation Code §228.055.

The Camino Colombia toll road, which begins near the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge and stretches 22 miles east to I-35 north of Laredo, is operated by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The toll road provides a safe, time-saving alternative route between Monterrey and the U.S. Thanks to a new high-tech payment system, drivers prepay their tolls electronically, which means no stopping at a toll booth or digging for change.

“The Camino Colombia toll road is a great option for drivers traveling to and from Mexico who want to bypass traffic through Laredo,” said Danny Magee, TxDOT Laredo District Director of Operations. “By eliminating the need to stop at a toll booth, we’re improving safety and air quality, cutting travel time and reducing operating costs associated with collecting tolls.”

Another option for drivers who use the toll road frequently is to open a TxTag account. With a TxTag, tolls are automatically deducted from a prepaid account every time a driver uses the toll road. TxTag is accepted on toll roads throughout Texas, while the Camino Colombia Day Pass may only be used to pay tolls on Camino Colombia.
