The 5th Annual HEB Holiday Bowl is right around the corner and it needs some spirit!
In the great tradition of BCS bowl games, this football game delivers a lot of fun for the community, and more importantly, serves as a great fundraiser to help support the City of Laredo Police Department’s Blue Santa program. This entertaining game pits the media against representatives from the City of Laredo in a classic game of the pigskin. Entrance to the game is an unwrapped new toy, or $5, for Blue Santa, who last year delivered toys to almost 2,800 needy girls and boys.
The game will be played on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the UISD Student Activity Complex. Organizers for the event are looking for cheerleaders and dance teams who want to strut their stuff, while helping to collect toys for needy children.
“We understand many groups will be participating in that evening’s NavidadFest Parade, but we want to assure them that they will be out in plenty of time to participate in the event,” said Xochitl Mora Garcia, City of Laredo spokeswoman who is helping to spearhead the event; in particular, the spirit aspect of the game.
