On November 9, 2009 the Laredo Police arrested Jose Carlos Gomez, 19 yrs. old, for the robbery of the Compass Bank on October 20, 2009, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Laredo Police Officers were dispatched to the Compass Bank, located on 5400 McPherson, to a robbery call. Apparently a disguised suspect entered the bank and ordered everyone to the floor at gun point. The suspect ran out the same way he came in and made his escape in a white Toyota Camry. The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun which broke apart on the way out of the bank. Last week Laredo Police Investigators released a picture of a person of interest who was photographed in same bank prior to the robbery.
After the photograph aired in the local media an anonymous call was made to Crime Stoppers with information on the possible identity of the suspect. Police picked up Jose Carlos Gomez, 19, and brought him for investigative purposes at Police Headquarters. Gomez voluntarily confessed to the robbery at the bank. He is charged with Felony 2 Robbery and will be held under a $20,000 bond set by Justice of the Peace Oscar Liendo. We thank the media for the release of the person of interest and Crime Stoppers for their information leading to this arrest.
