Courtesy Xochitl Mora,
The City of Laredo will be hosting its annual tree lighting ceremony, kicking off the Christmas season in our community. This year, thanks to partners Laredo Center for the Arts, La Posada Hotel, Laredo Main Street and the Instituto Cultural de Mexico, the festivities will include a bevy of Christmas performances, traditional Mexican holiday foods, and arts & crafts, all while awaiting the arrival of Santa to officially help City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas flip the switch and officially announcing the arrival of Christmas in Laredo.
However, the fun will all begin with a Christmas parade with all of Santa’s Little Helpers, heralding in the holiday. Everyone is invited to enter a float in the parade. Corporate businesses, non-profit organizations, student groups or individuals are all welcome to show off their Christmas spirit and enter the parade as a float; cheer/dance/performing/military/performing walking group; vehicles, motorcycles, little cars; or equestrian entry. Please fill out an official registration form (attached) and return to Anita Stanley, with the City of Laredo Parks & Leisure Services Department. Please contact Stanley for any questions or clarifications for parade entries. There is no entry fee, but floats and entries must comply with all theme guidelines and parade rules.
“I encourage all Laredo children and businesses to get in the holiday spirit and enter a float in our own NavidadFest Parade,” said Salinas. “It will be a lot of fun for the whole community.”
Float entries in the parade must obtain a permit from the Laredo Fire Department Fire Marshall. Please call Fire Captain Felix Nunez at the Laredo Building Services Development Office at 794-1625 for more information on requirements and obtaining a permit.
ENTRY DEADLINE: Fri., Nov. 20, 2009, 5:00 p.m.
