Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at approximately 5:30 am, Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop leading to the seizure of 824 pounds of marijuana.
Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 83 after the driver of a black pickup truck failed to yield right of way. The driver drove into parking lot of a business then continued to Pita Mangana Road and San Rafael, the driver then proceeded to make a speedy turn into the brush knocking down a fence line, in an attempt to escape. As soon as the driver brought vehicle to complete stop, he abandoned the vehicle and absconded into the brush, he was immediately caught with the assistance of the Laredo Police Department and an off duty officer from Laredo Community College.
Deputies discovered 29 bundles of marijuana totaling to 829 pounds with an approximate street value of $416,944. Arrested was Cesar Pineda, 21, from Brownsville, Texas. Pineda was arrested and charged for possession of marijuana, felony 2 and remanded to the Webb County jail in lieu of bond.
