Rep. Cuellar Secures $772,700 for TAMIU’s Port Laredo Logistics Ecosystem Project

Courtesy Fernanda Nuñez,

Laredo, TX – , U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, secures the inclusion of $772,700 in the Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations bill for Texas A&M International University’s Port Laredo Logistics Ecosystem Project.

The funding would help TAMIU establish a Digital Twin and Logistics Resilience Lab in partnership with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. The project would use artificial intelligence, sensor networks and secure data systems to create a digital model of freight activity, helping researchers and industry partners identify bottlenecks, anticipate disruptions and better plan for the movement of goods.

The project would also develop a Logistics Resilience Index and Digital Trade Corridor Map, strengthen cybersecurity protections for freight systems, and create opportunities for local businesses, logistics providers and students to participate in workforce development and hands-on training. These efforts would help strengthen Laredo’s competitiveness and prepare the region’s workforce for the future of international trade.
