Congeressman Henry Cuellar Announces $310,799 in Federal Health Care Funding

Laredo, TX – On Friday, September 4, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28), will announced $310,799 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the City of Laredo’s Ryan White Part C Program and hold a press conference on the impact of Medicaid cuts on Texas hospitals and health care providers.
Of the $310,799, $259,001 will support the Ryan White Part C Outpatient Early Intervention Services Program, while $51,798 will support training and technical assistance. The funding will help provide individuals living with HIV access to health care and support services, including medical care, lab diagnostics, case management, behavioral health treatment, oral health care, medication assistance, transportation and health insurance assistance.
The City of Laredo Health Department serves as an HIV and STD provider for Webb, Jim Hogg, Starr and Zapata counties, making Laredo an important health care hub for South Texas.
During the press conference, Rep. Cuellar discussed concerns over Medicaid cuts, including the expected loss of $27 million per day in Medicaid funding for Texas hospitals and the administration’s withholding of $9.8 billion tied to important CMS programs, including CHIRP.
He also discussed how the $900 billion in Medicaid cuts included in One Big Beautiful Bill Act could affect Texas hospitals and the more than 4 million Texans enrolled in Medicaid, most of whom are children.
