LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo Public Information Office and the Laredo Police Department have earned statewide recognition at the 2026 Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) Awards, bringing home honors in a highly competitive field that featured more than 700 entries from municipalities and government agencies across Texas.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the TAMI Awards recognize excellence in government communications, public information, marketing, and community engagement. With entries submitted across 32 categories, the 2026 competition surpassed previous years in both participation and competitiveness.
The City of Laredo Public Information Office was awarded Second Place in the Special Publication (Printed or Digital) category for cities with populations of more than 150,000 for its publication, Securing America’s Trade Gateway. The publication highlighted Laredo’s critical role as the nation’s largest inland port and showcased the city’s importance in international trade, economic development, and infrastructure

investment.
The Laredo Police Department’s Auto Theft Division earned Third Place in the Public Service Announcement (Educational) category for cities with populations of more than 150,000 for its creative video campaign, End the Fright, Lock it Tight. Produced entirely in-house by Auto Theft Division officers, the Halloween-themed video educated residents about auto theft prevention and encouraged the public to take simple but important steps to secure their vehicles.

In addition to the award-winning entries, two City of Laredo Public Information Office productions were selected for screening during the TAMIO Film Festival, a showcase highlighting outstanding government video productions from across Texas.
The featured productions included Women in Law Enforcement, a documentary-style tribute created as part of the Laredo Police Department’s 175th Anniversary celebration that highlighted the experiences and contributions of female officers throughout the department’s history, and No Wipes in the Pipes, a public education campaign produced in partnership with the Utilities Department that informed residents about the harmful impact of flushing wipes into the wastewater system.

“These recognitions reflect the incredible talent, creativity, and dedication of our Public Information Office and Police Department personnel,” said City Manager Joseph Neeb. “Whether promoting public safety, educating residents, highlighting our community’s strengths, or preserving our history, these projects demonstrate the power of effective communication in local government. We are honored to be recognized among the best municipal communicators in Texas.”
The awards highlight the City’s continued commitment to innovative public outreach, educational programming, and community engagement through strategic communications.
