El Metro Transit Announces Return of “Kids on the Go!” Free Summer Youth Transportation Program

LAREDO, Texas — El Metro Transit is proud to announce the return of the Kids on the Go! Summer Youth Transportation Program, an initiative designed to keep local youth active, connected, and safely on the move during the summer months.
From June 1 through August 9, 2026, all youth ages 6 to 17 can ride El Metro Fixed Route Buses completely FREE of charge. This program aims to ease the financial burden on local families while making it easier than ever for kids to access summer camps, community parks, public libraries, local pools, and other recreational activities.
Safety Note: To ensure a safe riding experience for everyone, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
How to Ride for Free
To take advantage of the program, eligible youth must present one of the following forms of identification to the bus driver upon boarding:
An active Parks and Recreation ID card
A public library card
An official El Metro Kids on the Go! ID card
How to Apply for an El Metro Kids on the Go! ID Card
For youth who do not have a library or Parks and Recreation card, El Metro makes it simple to get an official program ID for $2.00. To apply, youth must provide one of the following documents:
A current school ID
A recent report card
A current class schedule
