LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo has officially lifted the partial boil water notice previously issued for customers served by the Jefferson Water Treatment Plant service area following final approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

As part of the regulatory process, the City of Laredo Utilities Department submitted more than 50 bacteriological water samples collected throughout the affected service area. All bacteriological samples confirmed negative results for any bacteria. Additional sampling and regulatory review were conducted following the detection of coliform compounds in select samples before final authorization was granted to lift the notice.

Current operational data, system monitoring, and extensive follow-up sampling continued to indicate the issue was isolated and not related to a failure of the City’s water treatment infrastructure or plant operations.
In coordination with TCEQ requirements, Utilities Department personnel conducted enhanced flushing operations, system monitoring efforts, and additional sampling throughout the Jefferson Water Treatment Plant service area to ensure the continued protection of public health and compliance with all regulatory standards.

Water treatment operations at the Jefferson Water Treatment Plant continued functioning normally throughout the duration of the precautionary notice, system pressure remained stable, and disinfectant residual levels remained within operational standards.
Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño thanked residents, local businesses, Utilities Department personnel, emergency response teams, and supporting City departments for their patience, cooperation, and tireless efforts throughout the response process.
“I’m pleased to announce that the partial boil water notice has been lifted,” said Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño. “This was a precautionary, partial notice issued out of an abundance of caution to protect public health. While initial tests were negative, we followed every step TCEQ required to ensure full compliance and confidence in our water system.
“Throughout this process, operational data and testing continued to support that this was an isolated incident and not a failure of the City’s water treatment system or infrastructure.

“This situation also reinforces a clear priority: we must continue investing in our water infrastructure and expanding our testing capabilities. We will not kick the can down the road. We are committed to making the improvements necessary now to ensure long-term reliability and maintain public trust.
“I want to thank our residents for their patience, as well as our Utilities Department, emergency response teams, City staff, and state partners for their dedication throughout this process. Water is, and will remain, a top priority for our city.”
Water within the Jefferson Water Treatment Plant service area is now safe for normal consumption and use.
The City of Laredo will continue monitoring and maintaining all operational safeguards throughout the water distribution system and appreciates the community’s continued trust and cooperation.
