City of Laredo Recognizes Outstanding Achievements During City Council Meeting

Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo and Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, alongside the Laredo City Council, proudly recognized outstanding students, athletes, organizations, and City employees during Monday’s City Council Meeting for their remarkable achievements and contributions to the community.
The Nixon High School Girls Soccer Team was recognized for making school history by winning the program’s first-ever District Championship and Bi-District Championship. The team also became the first in Laredo ISD history to advance to the Area Round, marking a historic milestone for the program and the district. Team members recognized include Alejandra Davila, Alexa Ruiz, Briana Gonzalez, Abigail Holguin, Marlen Lopez, Brianna Soto, Ashley Salinas, Adela Contreras, Yulissa Santiago, Yomaris Chapa, Liliana Leon, Stefany Caballero, Julieta Onofre, Kimberly Contreras, Yazmin Ruiz, Danna Arredondo, April Lorenzo, and Kiara Recio.

The City also recognized Kimberly Gonzalez, a three-time regional powerlifting champion from Nixon High School, for earning second place at this year’s state powerlifting meet in the 198-pound raw division, showcasing her strength, discipline, and commitment to excellence.
The United High School Larriettes were also recognized for their outstanding achievements, earning National Champion titles in Jazz, Contemporary, Open, and Pom in the Super Division, as well as Highest Scoring Public School in Kick and Open, National Champion in Super Team, and second place overall. In addition, Ximena Salazar was recognized as a National Soloist Champion.

In academic achievement, Hannah Chavez, a seventh-grade student from Elias Herrera Middle School, was honored as the 2026 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee Champion and will represent Laredo on the national stage in Washington, D.C. The Mayor and City Council also congratulated finalists Caleb Garcia, a second-grade student from San Isidro Elementary School; Maya Jimenez, a fourth-grade student from Henry Cuellar Elementary School; and Xixin Pan, a fourth-grade student from Nye Elementary School, for placing among the top competitors in a field of 63 participants.
The Next Level Dance Studio All Stars were recognized for their outstanding performance in competitive dance, earning first place and Grand Champion titles at the Pride Championships in Edinburgh, Texas, and the United Cheer National Competition in Galveston, Texas. The team brought home two medals and championship jackets, reflecting their dedication and talent.
The City also recognized the women of the Solid Waste Department, Lara Lara, Karla Doria, Alexandra Lara, and Martha Lara, for their service as route specialists, refuse collectors, and heavy equipment operators.

This recognition highlights the vital role they play in maintaining cleanliness and public health, as well as their contributions in a traditionally male-dominated field.
