City of Laredo Recognizes Outstanding Achievements During City Council Meeting

Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo and Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, alongside the Laredo City Council, proudly recognized several individuals and organizations during last night’s City Council Meeting for their exceptional accomplishments, dedication, and contributions to the community.

Among those recognized was Lieutenant Charlie A. Rosales of the Laredo Police Department, who successfully graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, as part of the program’s 297th session. Lt. Rosales was one of only 252 law enforcement officers selected worldwide to attend the rigorous 10-week training program, which focuses on advanced leadership, communication, and physical fitness. Participants represented 48 states, the District of Columbia, 24 countries, as well as military and federal civilian organizations.

The City also proudly recognized Karime Nevarez for qualifying for the Ultra Marathon World Championship, an extraordinary achievement that reflects her discipline, endurance, and commitment to excellence in athletics.

In addition, Sergio “Javi” Martinez, a junior at Martin High School, was honored as the 2026 Texas High School Powerlifting Association (THSPA) State Champion. Sergio earned first place with an impressive total lift of 1,570 between the squat, bench and deadlift events, showcasing remarkable strength and determination while representing Laredo at the state level.

Mayor and Council also recognized Ay Carbon Tacos & Hamburguesas for their continued community support and outstanding service in providing quality food to the residents of Laredo, highlighting the important role local businesses play in strengthening the community.

The City of Laredo and District 8 Council Member, Alyssa Cigarroa, proudly recognized the recipients of the 2026 Spirit of Laredo Scholarship, awarded through a partnership between the Laredo Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Killam Development, Ltd. Honorees Alberto Vargas, Yvana Guzman, and Regina Verboonen were recognized for their outstanding scholarship submissions, which presented innovative ideas aimed at improving and positively shaping the public perception of the City of Laredo.
