BLUNTSON SENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE

(Laredo, Texas)-This morning Demond-Depree Bluntson was sentenced to LIFE without parole. Mr. Blunston was found guilty of Capital Murder in 2016 by a jury in the 49th District Court. He was sentenced to DEATH by lethal injection. In 2018, he was found mentally competent by another jury in the 49th District Court.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the guilty verdict of Capital Murder and reversed the sentencing phase of the trial.
The Court found that there was an error in the jury verdict form that was given to the jury by the trial court. After careful consideration, deliberation and evaluation of all the factors including meeting with the victims’ families and visiting death row, District Attorney Alaniz waived the death penalty. Demond Bluntson will spend the remainder of his life in general population in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
